» Also, check out my bookmarks at del.icio.us « Computers and Technology Banana Slug - "BananaSlug was designed to promote serendipitous surfing: finding the unexpected in the 8,058,044,651 web pages indexed by Google. Directed Google searches return pages most relevant to your search term, based on the pages' popularity on the Web. You may never see some of the pages way down the list that are relevant or interesting, but off the beaten path."
Blog - On-going diary of our web design work and "best practices."
CBC Archives - Great clips and stories from year's past... WWII, Vietnam, etc. I particularly enjoy the "On This Day" clips. I listened to a Churchill broadcast and watched Sammy Davis Jr. talk to draft dodgers.
Cookie Dog Hosting - A private hosting service that we make available to select clients. An ideal hosting environment for a Quadra Street Designs CMS site.
dafont.com - Over 7,000 free fonts.
Favicon Generator - A great, quick on-line tool for creating favicons. Two warnings, though. First, if you put in their suggested tag into a Xaraya site, make sure you explicitly close off the tag. Secondly, the favicon only works on the home page in the current version of IE -- not secondary pages.
Filezilla - Best FTP progam I've found so far. Transfers multiple files at once, shows you transfer progress, able to handle huge numbers of files.

Google Print Search - Search the scanned text of zillions of books.

GRSites.com - A fantastic source for free web graphics and tools... actually free! Hard to believe, I know :)
Internet Traffic Report - "Your Internet surfing safari may be smooth today, but perhaps you can't reach Yahoo or a few web sites in Europe. This web site will tell you if those regions of the Internet are currently slowed down. By checking the Internet Traffic Report, you can determine if your problems are global or local."
JavaScript Source - A repository for all manner of javascript. Simple things like changing css on the fly, and more complicated menus, etc.
Jewish Encyclopedia - "This website contains the complete contents of the 12-volume Jewish Encyclopedia, which was originally published between 1901-1906. The Jewish Encyclopedia, which recently became part of the public domain, contains over 15,000 articles and illustrations.
This online version contains the unedited contents of the original encyclopedia. Since the original work was completed almost 100 years ago, it does not cover a significant portion of modern Jewish History (e.g., the creation of Israel, the Holocaust, etc.). However, it does contain an incredible amount of information that is remarkably relevant today."
Men of the Internet - Real men... real pictures. I dread finding my own picture on this site some day!

Xaraya - The best CMS (Content Management System) out there: well written PHP code that is vetted by the entire developer community, object oriented, focussed on a content architecture of roles / priviledges / categories.

A Guide to Snowflakes - "...all about snow crystals and snowflakes -- what they are, where they come from, and just how these remarkably complex and beautiful structures are created, quite literally, out of thin air."
Badger Badger Badger - Badger, badger, badger, badger, mushroom, mushroom, snake, a snake! (Turn on your Sound.)

Brick Testament - The bible portrayed with lego toys!
Escapa! - "Here's a fun game to play. The object of the game is to move the red block around without getting hit by the blue blocks or touching the black walls." Instant Addiction.

Wedding Jewellery - I quite often get asked for a good place to go for a wedding set or engagement ring. My favourite is Ian MacDonald Jewellery on View Street -- however, Ian doesn't have a web site that I can find. So here's a link to a site that lists wedding jewellery designers. They have contact information for Ian MacDonald.
